Edinburg EDC Sponsors Live Script Reading of Popcorn Prophets
EDINBURG, Texas — The Popcorn Prophets team is proud to announce that the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation (EEDC) has joined as an official sponsor of the upcoming live script reading of Popcorn Prophets, taking place October 15, 2025, at The Citrus Live in Edinburg.
Written by Edinburg native Reynaldo Leal and directed by Nate Boyer, Popcorn Prophets is positioned to create opportunity and visibility for South Texas’ growing creative industry.
“The Edinburg Economic Development Corporation recognizes that film production in Texas is an important driver of economic development,” said EEDC Executive Director Raudel Garza.
Beyond creating job opportunities, Garza also noted that film production boosts local taxable spending and showcases the community to audiences beyond the region. EEDC is committed to exploring innovative strategies that nurture an ecosystem capable of generating prosperity and high-paying jobs for Edinburg residents.
“The support from the EEDC means so much to us,” said Leal. “Their sponsorship reflects a real belief in what this project represents, a chance to build something lasting for the Valley, both culturally and economically.”
The live script reading will feature professional actors, including Rio Grande Valley natives Dannie McCallum and David Barrera, and marks an important step toward production in 2026.
